Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can start logging workouts right after installing LiFTY.

Your records are saved on your device, and you can keep using the app without ever logging in.

Logging in is optional — it's only needed if you want cloud backup and restore-on-device-change, which are premium plan features.

Where is my workout data stored?

Your workout data is stored on your device by default (the local database is encrypted).

Only when you're logged in with a premium plan is it also synced to the cloud in the background.

I use multiple gyms — can I keep weight records separate for each?

Yes. By registering the same exercise separately for each gym, you can keep weight records distinct per location.

The free plan allows up to 2 registered locations.

Logging Workouts

How do I start logging a workout?

Tap "+ Start Workout" on the Home screen, then choose today's location and a menu (workout plan) to begin.

You can also choose "Log freely" to start without selecting a menu.

Can I add a record for a past date?

Yes. From the Calendar or the Past Records screen, use "Add a record for this day" to log a workout for a past date.

What happens if I forget to finish a workout?

A workout stays "in progress" until you tap "Finish Workout" — it won't disappear even if the date changes overnight, and you can pick up where you left off.

If you'd rather discard it, use "Cancel this record" on the recording screen.

Can I log a deliberate rest day?

Yes. Tap "Rest today" on the Home screen to log a deliberate rest day (you can add a note too).

Rest days show up in the Calendar in their own color.

Can I track weight separately for left and right sides?

Yes. When registering an exercise, turn on "Track left/right separately" to log sets independently for each side.

What does the "W" marker mean in my set records?

"W" marks a set as a warm-up.

Turning it on in the set logging screen or when setting menu targets flags that set as a warm-up, excluding it from target-achievement checks and automatic target update suggestions.

Can I log warm-up sets?

Yes. On the set logging screen, tap the "W" button to mark a set as a warm-up — warm-up sets are excluded from target-achievement checks.

What is RPE?

RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) is a self-reported measure of how hard a set felt.

You can pick from 7, 8, 9, 9.5, or 10 with one tap on the set logging screen, giving you a sense of intensity when reviewing past records later.

Here's a general guide to each value, based on how many more reps you feel you could do:
・7: You could do about 3 more reps
・8: You could do about 2 more reps
・9: You could do 1 more rep
・9.5: You might be able to do 1 more rep, but you're not sure
・10: You couldn't do another rep — full effort

It's optional and isn't used for target-achievement checks like weight or reps.

Can I log cardio exercise?

Yes. Choose "Cardio" as the exercise type when registering an exercise to log duration, distance, calories burned, and average heart rate.

Menus & Targets

Is there a limit on how many menus I can create?

The free plan allows up to 5 menus (including archived ones). A premium plan is required for a 6th menu or more.

Can I save what I did as a reusable menu?

Yes. You can save what you did in a free-form session — or any past record — as a new menu, straight from the completion screen or the Past Records screen.

Are my weight/rep targets updated automatically?

When you finish a workout, if you hit your target reps on every set of an exercise, LiFTY will suggest raising your target for next time (you can turn this off in Settings).

Weight isn't used to decide whether to suggest an update (since it's a personal choice). The default suggestion is to increase reps, but you can switch to "Increase weight" instead right there.

If you choose "Increase weight", LiFTY estimates your 1RM from that set's results using the Epley formula (weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)) and automatically calculates the reps that match your new weight.

Goals

How do I set a goal?

Open the goal list from the icon at the top of the Home screen, then tap "+ Add Goal."

You can choose from body stats (like weight), set count (by body part or exercise), volume (by exercise), session count, or records (estimated 1RM, actual 1RM, or weight × reps), then set a target value along with a period (this week / this month / a custom range) or a deadline. You can have as many goals active at once as you like.

Where can I check my goal progress?

Check the goal card that appears below "Completed Sessions" on the Home screen. Tap any row in the card to open that goal's detail screen.

You can show or hide the goal card itself from Settings > "Home Screen Cards," and show or hide individual goals from the switch on each row in the goal list.

What happens when a goal reaches its deadline?

When a goal reaches its deadline (or the end of its tracking period), it's automatically marked "achieved" or "not achieved" based on the value at that time, and you can check the result in the goal list or detail screen. Weekly/monthly goals automatically continue into the next period.

Turn on "Notify me of goal results" in Settings > Notifications to get notified when a result comes in (off by default).

Locations & Exercises

Is there a limit on how many exercises I can register?

There's no limit — you can register as many exercises as you like, even on the free plan.

I accidentally deleted an exercise. Can I restore it?

Deleting moves an item to the archive rather than erasing it, so your records stay intact. You can restore it from Settings > Data Management > Archive.

Note that items never used in any record are permanently deleted instead.

Premium Plan

What's the difference between the free and premium plans?

Premium adds cloud sync & backup, unlimited locations, unlimited menus, an ad-free experience, extra color themes, full access to the Analysis tab, and CSV data export.

Core features — logging, progress graphs, and the calendar — stay free.

Will I lose my records if I cancel the premium plan?

No, your records stay intact.

If your locations or menus exceed the free plan's limit after cancelling, the most recently added ones are archived (not deleted) — your workout history is preserved.

What should I do when switching to a new device?

If you're signed in with the paid plan, sign in on your new iPhone and your records will be restored from the cloud backup.

Even without signing in, your records carry over if you move to your new iPhone in one of these ways:

• Use Quick Start and choose "Transfer from iPhone" (direct transfer from your old iPhone)
• Back up with Finder (or iTunes) on a Mac/PC with "Encrypt local backup" turned on, then restore it to the new iPhone
• Restore from an iCloud backup (when Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > "Passwords and Keychain" is on, and you've opened the latest version of LiFTY on your old iPhone at least once)

If you restore from an unencrypted Finder backup, for example, your records may not be readable. In that case LiFTY starts fresh and keeps your previous data on the device. To be sure, we also recommend saving a CSV from Settings > Data Management > Export Data before moving (paid plan).

Analysis

What can I do in the Analysis tab?

The Analysis tab lets you chart trends like estimated 1RM, volume, and set count per exercise.

Viewing one metric at a time over the last 3 months is free; overlaying two metrics or viewing 6 months or more requires a premium plan.

I heard I can unlock Analysis features by watching an ad.

Yes. You can unlock the full Analysis tab for 24 hours by watching a single ad (available once every 30 days).

Health Sync

Can I sync with Apple Health?

Yes. From Settings > Health Sync, you can sync weight, body fat percentage, height, and cardio workouts both ways with Apple Health (Health Connect on Android).

Will past data be imported when I turn on Health Sync?

Yes — the first time you turn it on, LiFTY imports your entire history.

After that, only new data is synced each time you open the app.

Apple Watch

Can I log a workout with only my Apple Watch?

Yes. Pick a location and menu on the Watch home screen, log sets for each exercise, and finish the workout, all on the Watch. You can adjust weight and reps with the Digital Crown, and log in one tap when you hit your target. Cardio exercises are timed with a stopwatch.

You can log without your iPhone nearby; records are sent to the iPhone automatically once they reconnect. You can also join a workout you started on the iPhone, partway through.

Things that don't fit on the Watch, such as RPE, notes, and adding exercises, are done on the iPhone. See "Logging with Apple Watch" in the User Guide for details.

Where can I see the heart rate recorded on my Apple Watch?

Cardio records store heart rate at 5-second intervals. You can see the average and maximum heart rate with a line chart in Past Records on the iPhone, and each session's line chart under recent records in Progress (exercise detail).

If I record with Apple Watch, will the same workout appear twice in Apple Health?

No. For workouts recorded with Apple Watch, the Watch itself saves the workout, including its estimated calories, directly to Apple Health, and the iPhone doesn't write it again. This is the same regardless of the toggles in Settings > Health Sync.

Data Management

Can I export my records?

Yes, with a premium plan you can export your data as CSV files — training records and body stats can each be exported separately.

What happens if I delete my account?

Your cloud data will be deleted, but your local records on the device remain and you can keep using LiFTY anonymously.

Deleting your account does not cancel a premium subscription — you'll need to cancel it separately from your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.

Notifications & Language

Can I get a reminder so I don't forget to log a workout?

Yes. Turn on reminders in Settings > Notifications and choose a time to be notified if you haven't logged a workout that day (off by default).

You won't be notified on days you've already logged a workout or declared a rest day.

Can I switch the display language to English?

Yes. Go to Settings > Language to switch between Japanese and English within the app, independent of your device's system language.
